Mend the Gap

Mend the Gap (MtG) is a charity registered as a company limited by guarantee number 06655366 in England and Wales established by members of the East African Diaspora in England. Amongst the founders were Assefa Somuro and Joseph Aojar who are former Ethiopian and Ugandan refugees respectively, and Naftali Onchere - originally from Kenya. Other trustees include Francis Montagu, Legal Partner at Bennetts Solicitors and Lay Leader at All Saints Church Wrington; Paul Wasike (NHS Health Advisor); Company Director David Potter and Jayne Crosby (Head of Department, Cabot Academy, Bristol). MtG was founded to strengthen links established between the congregations of St Mary’s Church and All Saints Church in North Somerset, and the Bochoroke village, in the remote Masaba district in Nyamira County, Kenya. MtG’s mission is to help individuals and their communities to mend the gap between cultures, religions, generations and people of different wealth for current and future generations. We will achieve this by making links and creating bridges between these different groups and individuals. The Let Us Connect component of the Bochoroke Village Self Help Group Project is a flagship pilot project that will make a massive difference to 4,500 poor and vulnerable Kenyans and a significant step-change to a disadvantaged minority ethnic group-led charity in the UK. The Let Us Connect component of Mend the Gap in UK will make a massive difference to isolated rural communities in the ancient county of Avon and Somerset and Bristol City: especially targeting disadvantaged ethnic minority groups and vulnerable young, older and elderly people.
