Cara Project's mission is to sustain and maintain the CARA Girls Rescue Centre based near Nairobi in Kenya. We rescue young girls whose lives have been ripped apart through illness, poverty, poor housing, lack of sanitation and disease. Some have lost their parents. Cara Projects was founded in 2008 by a group of Irish volunteers. Cara Girls Rescue Centre in Kibiko, Nairobi caters for up to forty girls aged two to sixteen years. We are in the process of setting up a female volunteer program called Volunteer in Kenya, where volunteers can stay and work at our centre. This Volunteer in Kenya program will help to provide funding for the center and also provides an opportunity for volunteers to work with young girls in the center alongside the resident counselor. There are no educational requirements needed by volunteers, but obviously if a volunteer has specific skills or training then I am sure these skills can be put to good use! We understand that this is not a volunteer for free program but the funding raised is as important to these young girls as your volunteerism.
