Anti-Prejudice Consortium of Atlanta, Georgia

The mission of the Anti-Prejudice Consortium is to partner with schools and the community to prepare students to become catalysts for change and leaders in the battle against prejudice and hate and the violence that comes with them. The Consortium sponsors the Prejudice Awareness Summit (PAS) in which 340 students (170 per day)representing public, religious, and private schools from counties across metro-Atlanta, are invited to experience a one-day workshop of speakers, interactive exercises, and group discussions. While it is recognized that a one-day training is not likely to change behavior or attitudes, the effects of the PAS reach well beyond the program itself since these students then return to their schools to begin the second phase of the PAS process. The students implement prejudice awareness action plans that they themselves created at the PAS, allowing its lessons of tolerance and non-violence to permeate the staff and student body of entire schools.
