Febrayer Network

Febrayer - The Network of Independent Arab Media Organisations is a Berlin-based non-profit organisation. It is an alliance of leading media organisations in the Middle East and North Africa that has grown organically since 2016 and has strengthened the work of independent, critical and progressive media in the region in order to provide people with reliable information and compelling narratives and to hold the institutions of power accountable.

Febrayer aims to support individual media organisations under its roof to expand their audience and influence. It strives to build a new community around the network in Berlin (and the diaspora in general) that includes writers, researchers and journalists, who are invested in producing knowledge that is socially and politically engaged in the region at present.

The network works on producing collective written and audio publications on topics critically relevant to the region, allowing it to work outside geographical and philosophical boundaries and produce new intellectual and political content. It also supervises the program of the Counter Academy for Independent Arab Media, which prepares 35 Arabic speaking journalists to work in the field of alternative and independent media through courses in critical thinking, alternative history and the preparation and editing of texts.
