Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund

Since 1986, Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund has distributed $219 million to help folks facing unforeseen crises in their lives (such as the loss of a job, a life-threatening illness, or a natural disaster). We believe that an unexpected financial crisis should never mean losing your home. So, every day we give Bay Area neighbors a way to provide life-changing support to each other when it’s needed most. When we meet the moment, we stabilize a person or family that could otherwise spiral downward.

Through a network of 150 community service agencies covering the nine-county Bay Area, Season of Sharing Fund works to identify residents in need and provide short-term, critical assistance. In addition, the Fund supports local food banks and distributes $2 million each year to assist individuals and families who might otherwise go hungry. All administrative expenses are covered by the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund and the San Francisco Chronicle. As a result, all money raised by Season of Sharing Fund goes directly toward housing, food, and critical needs for our Bay Area neighbors.
