About Us

Communities In Schools (CIS) is the nation’s largest and most effective dropout prevention organization. For 40 years, Communities In Schools has been helping students achieve in school, graduate and go on to bright futures.

Our school-based staff work directly on 86 elementary, middle and high school campuses in Central Texas. In addition to providing individual student support, they work to provide whole school supports, helping ensure school environments are safe and inclusive for all students.

Who We Serve

Children living in poverty may face a range of challenges that stand in the way of learning, like hunger, homelessness, and unmet health needs. At Communities In Schools, we amplify the power of each student’s potential by connecting them to caring adults and community resources designed to help them succeed.

In the 2018-2019 school year, Communities In Schools provided intensive, ongoing supports for 5,981 students, and provided short term services for an additional 49,566 students.

What We Do

At Communities In Schools, we work directly inside schools to spot and overcome the roadblocks in our students’ way. We start by collaborating with school districts and schools to understand student and community needs, and we deliver resources tailored to each school community. We go beyond the classroom to work with local businesses, social service agencies, healthcare providers and volunteers, to give every student the confidence to overcome life’s future roadblocks and own their success.

We empower young people to set and meet goals, provide parent engagement and support, and help every child meet their full potential.

By helping our most vulnerable students stay in school and succeed in life, we are building stronger, healthier and more economically stable communities where every person is capable of reaching their greatest potential.
