  • Acerca de

Founded in 1980 by Philadelphia Orchestra cellist Bert Phillips and Steinway pianist Toby Blumenthal, Luzerne Music Center aims to provide world-class music instruction for passionate young people in a summer camp environment regardless of their financial circumstance. Musicians ages 9 to 18 come from all over the world to train at LMC's campus located in the foothills of New York’s Adirondack Park.

The campus, established in 1909 as “Camp Tekakwitha,” is 20 wooded acres consisting of recreational facilities, student cabins, faculty housing, a charming Adirondack performance lodge, an outdoor performance shed, practice building, dining hall, administration building, and a natural sandy beachfront on Lake Luzerne.

Since inception, LMC has maintained strong relations with musicians of the Philadelphia Orchestra and New York City Ballet. Both Junior and Senior session students regularly visit the Saratoga Performing Arts Center to enjoy world-class performances by these ensembles, among others. Each August, LMC invites several Philadelphia Orchestra musicians to campus for a one-week residency, which includes a side-by-side orchestral reading, masterclasses, and sectionals.

At LMC, students study music theory and rhythm, train in small and large ensembles, receive daily chamber music coaching, and weekly private lessons. Our students perform on- and off-campus throughout the summer, and train in a nurturing environment balanced by hard work and enriching group activities.
