VITA (Volunteer Instructors Teaching Adults, Inc.) is a nonprofit, community-based volunteer organization that helps adults, seventeen years of age or older, become more productive citizens by improving their literacy skills. Our volunteers help adult learners develop reading, writing, and speaking skills, and our student/tutor teams meet in public locations around the Acadiana area. In addition to tutoring throughout the community, VITA staff members teach classes in phonics, grammar, reading comprehension, vocabulary, computer literacy, math, and job readiness. Classes are available during the morning, and the computer lab is available throughout the day. Anyone interested in being a tutor should check out our website for more details http://www.vitlaf.org. Anyone interested in becoming a student should contact VITA by phone or by email.
