    About I Be Black Girl

    I Be Black Girl (IBBG) is a reproductive justice organization in Nebraska that leads with boldness, innovation and inspiration, actively creating a radical change-making culture that centers Black women, femmes and girls. Inspired by the work of bell hooks, Audre Lorde and other Black feminist and womanist, our organization provides transformational change at the intersections of gender and race. The term “I Be,” framed by author bell hooks in Be Boy Buzz, inspired IBBG’s founder to fill spaces with what it means to exist as a Black woman, femme or girl—where we are free to define and own that narrative.

    About the Position

    The Maternal Health Initiative Coordinator will be a key team member on the Nebraska Maternal Health (MHI) Initiative, a 5-year grant awarded through HRSA to support positive birth and health outcomes for Black mamas, folks with the capacity for pregnancy, babies and families. This role will serve as a project manager in implementing the initiative to ensure we meet our objectives.

    The ideal candidate is a self-starter that has extensive experience in maternal and child health, public health and social drivers of health - to help chart a new path for Black birthing people rooted in justice-based approaches. They will have attention to detail and program implementation skills.

    Education/Experience: Require a formal education/degree in public health, community health, public administration, maternal and child health or any other related field OR Professional certifications in OR 3-5 years' experience. Advanced knowledge of the Social Determinants of Health is required.

    Core Functions:

    • Program Management and Implementation
    • Participate in and support implementation and ongoing work of the MHI
    • Lead coordination of internal and external program activities
    • Facilitate group processes with internal and external stakeholders including capturing current work across agencies.
    • Support logistical aspects of meetings, webinars, and other in-person events.
    • Lead implementation of assigned projects with support of Program Manager.
    • Support the development and management of project plans in alignment with timeframes, budget, scheduling, and resources.
    • Act as liaison with related programs hosted by other agencies to promote and build partnerships.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing stakeholders to build and expand maternal health ecosystem in Nebraska.
    • Lead the innovation projects curated by the MHI Task Force
    • Attend local and national conferences to expand knowledge base and organizational partnerships.
    • Collect data, track participation, and monitor evaluation of key activities with evaluation partners.
    • Assist in preparation of strategy development.
    • Draft one pagers and memos for internal use on research findings.
    • Experience leading focus groups and/or community conversations
    • Effectively manage organizational drives and archives.
    • Other duties as assigned, created and necessary.
