Consultant, Catalytic Capital Consortium Community of Practice

    About the Catalytic Capital Consortium

The Catalytic Capital Consortium (C3) is an investment, learning, and market development initiative launched in 2019 by the MacArthur Foundation, in partnership with the Omidyar Network and the Rockefeller Foundation. The goal of this global initiative is to promote greater understanding and more effective use of catalytic capital in order to help build a more just, equitable, and resilient world.

To harness and build upon growing interest in catalytic capital and interest from the community, the C3 team is setting up a formally-structured Catalytic Capital Community of Practice (CC COP), allowing for connectivity with others active in catalytic capital work, as well as offering knowledge, capabilities, and tools around catalytic capital, to ultimately help drive greater and more effective use of catalytic capital. The team aims to empower and support leaders around the world – champions who can help increase the knowledge, awareness, and use of catalytic capital in their own communities and relevant sectors.

The CC COP is expected to have two broad strands –

    1) Learning Labs Community of Practice (LL COP)

A community comprising of a select core group of experienced investors that generate working groups formed to pursue catalytic capital-related activities or goals. These working groups include deal-sharing groups, for those actively pursuing transactions at a meaningful scale, and thematic groups, which are intended in a broad way as a theme, topic, or focus that could be of interest for a group of practitioners, discussing landscape and issues around work being done more broadly beyond deals.

    2) Network-led COP

A community designed to welcome other stakeholders interested in learning about catalytic capital and receiving training to increase their knowledge, potentially becoming part of the core group. This learning journey is led by C3’s current network partners from different regions with expertise in the field who support interested participants (primarily investors) through various learning stages relating to catalytic capital while actively targeting a broader impact-minded audience to join the community. Catalytic capital programming with these network partners is under development and is expected to lead to the formation of different communities across markets and thematic areas.

    Contract Summary

The deliverables of this contractor role are expected to evolve over time, starting with support for an initial 3-5 working groups (each with its own specific mandate) that would form from the LL COP described above. Over a period of 12 months, the expectation is to incorporate additional coordination with other groups that are formed with C3 support by different partners, including the global and regional network partners undertaking catalytic capital programming with their member groups. Individual group mandates will be specific; however, the main deliverables of the consultant are consistent across the groups. These include:

iv. Track working group projects and connect to work on the ground, examples, and transactions that can be included in broader lessons and learnings.
