    Position Summary:

    Reporting to the Director of Prospect Development, the Development Research Manager is part of the Development Operations & Donor Services Team and works with department leadership and fundraisers across the country. The position informs and enhances Audubon’s fundraising efforts by providing research, analysis, and strategy recommendations for existing and prospective donors.

    This position is remote within the United States.

    Compensation:

    Salary range based on geo-differentials:

    • $67,000-$82,000/year = National
    • $75,500-$90,500/year = Alaska, CA (not San Francisco), Connecticut, D.C., Chicago, Oyster Bay, NY
    • $83,500-$98,500/year = NYC (not Oyster Bay), San Francisco, Seattle

    Essential Functions

    • Develop strong partnerships with frontline fundraisers and Development staff to provide research and related services.
    • Research, organize, and analyze information from a variety of sources to determine capacity, relationships, and philanthropic interests, including managing research requests for donor and prospect meetings and strategy sessions.
    • Identify new prospective donors using a range of resources and strategies, making assignment and moves management recommendations when appropriate; assist with prospecting and portfolio diversification projects.
    • Lead and/or manage research-related initiatives such as strategy sessions, event bios, prospecting projects, portfolio reviews, board pipeline development, and other prospect development-related work.
    • Develop and monitor news alerts to share with appropriate Development staff and leadership.
    • Collaborate with Development Operations colleagues on data and systems projects and help ensure data integrity in Salesforce.
    • Assist on special projects and perform other duties as needed.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years experience in prospect research or a related field preferred. Equivalent work or education experience will also be considered.
    • Experience with online search strategies using both public search engines and paid sources such as LexisNexis, Foundation Directory Online, and iWave
    • Ability to interpret and summarize a high volume of information including SEC documents, 990 tax forms, real estate records, search engine results and news articles
    • Experience developing prospecting strategies to uncover and prioritize new potential donors
    • Ability to analyze data and assess donor/prospect capacity, affinity, and interest to support Audubon
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
    • Familiarity with fundraising databases, experience with Salesforce a plus
    • Excellent communication, organization, analytical, time management, and problem solving skills
    • Ability to work both individually and as part of a team, as well as to work under tight deadlines and with shifting priorities
    • Ability to partner with all levels of stakeholders - senior leadership, development officers, etc. - to address research needs and aid with strategy.
    • Knowledge of research ethics and confidentiality, and commitment to professional development
    • Interest, understanding, and commitment to the conservation of birds, other wildlife, and their habitat is critical, as is the ability to communicate Audubon’s mission, goals, and programs effectively and with the highest professional standards.
