    The Director of Operations responsibilities will include:

    Workforce Development Administration: Work with the Director of Workforce Development, and other workforce development staff to procure and maintain vendor services; track student support stipends; and other administrative activities necessary to support the successful implementation of our workforce development program.

    Grant Support: Create and maintain grant tracking and allocation systems, particularly for our workforce development program.

    Human Resources: Support management in coordinating the hiring process, on-boarding new staff; help ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, as well as our collective bargaining agreement.

    Staff Support: Work with staff to support effective administrative and operations functions, including support for reimbursement systems; personal time off; and other personnel needs.

    Primary Characteristics and Experience

    The Texas Climate Jobs Project Director of Operations will support the growing team of Texas Climate Jobs Project. The position should be an experienced, passionate advocate for a progressive economic agenda, a deep believer in the power of unions to lead on economic and climate issues, and committed to meet the existential threat of both global climate change and economic inequality with bold, transformative solutions.

    The position will be based in our Austin office, with occasional travel to other cities in Texas. The position will depend on a passionate commitment to supporting staff doing frontline organizing work at the intersection of climate change, clean energy, and job quality.

    In addition, the Director of Operations should have:

    • A minimum of five years in administrative support, operations, human resources, or a similar setting, with nonprofit experience a plus;
    • Demonstrated experience with federal grant management;
    • A demonstrated track record of designing and/or implementing organizational and administrative policies, procedures, and best practices designed to support staff;
    • Demonstrated experience in helping ensure organizational compliance with one or more aspects of maintaining federal grants;
    • A deep commitment to building power alongside impacted workers and marginalized communities;
    • An ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities;
    • Critical thinking and ability to think strategically about building and exercising power;
    • Excellent communication skills;
    • Familiarity with Google Drive;
    • Ability to travel to different areas of the state;
    • Flexibility and potential to excel in a fast-paced, quickly-evolving campaign movement that has a diverse and invested group of stakeholders.

    Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, but applications received before October 1, 2024 will be given preference. This is a grant-funded position with the possibility for continued funding beyond the current grant cycle.
