    Job Description

    Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, and overseeing the Manager of the High Line Network, the Senior Director of the High Line Network is a full-time, year- round position that leads this initiative. The position leverages FHL’s history and experience to create a larger field of practice along with Network participants and leaders in the industry. The Senior Director will shape the vision of the Network and how this vision becomes realized. By creating annual “convenings” that are aimed at discussing industrial reuse issues in conference forums (both for project leaders as well as other experts), the Senior Director helps to frame the ongoing vision of the Network. Creating relationships and dialogues with other project leaders will be a main component of the position, as well as crafting metrics for success for industrial reuse projects.

    This is a full-time, year-round, and exempt position.

    The annual salary range for this position is $140,000-150,000

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Direct and shape the vision of the Network
    • Unite the field of industrial reuse to jointly advocate for projects and policies that support equitable development and environmental resilience
    • Create a High Line Network Advisory Council comprised of industrial reuse project leaders and field experts
    • Establish goals for the Network’s learning community, and a process for expanding and diversifying it
    • Design and direct planning for annual convenings, including a public convening
    • Work directly with FHL’s Executive Director, Board and leadership teams (Planning and Design, Development/Fundraising, Programming, Maintenance and Operations) to be an outward facing voice for the program
    • Represent the organization in the local and global community, act as a public voice for this work
    • Work with funders and donors associated with the Network as well as other fundraising initiatives
    • Oversee the development of tools and research products for the Network
    • Shape the Network’s digital presence, including its website, social media channels, and eventually online resources and tools
    • Establish partnerships with scholars, academic institutions, and other field leaders
    • Establish goals and metrics in order to identify program success and evaluate progress using surveys, requests for feedback, and other evaluative methods
    • Identify challenges, opportunities, and best practices in the industry in order to establish resource allocation and planning for the direction of the Network
    • Commission white papers and case studies that explore in-depth key challenges facing these projects
    • Oversee the budget for the Network

    Required Qualifications

    • 8-10 years of proven experience and expertise in areas related to program design
    • Natural networking ability with measurable success in facilitating cross-organizational discourse and conference planning
    • 5+ years experience managing others and serving in a leadership capacity
    • Proven ability to apply expertise to a variety of initiatives
    • Ability to work independently, multi-task, solve problems, and collaborate with colleagues and other staff at all levels
    • Ability to synthesize information quickly and lead decision making
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills that exhibit leadership and persuasion

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree, in a field related to urban planning/architecture a plus
    • Experience in fundraising and field building
    • Experience working as an advocate for policy change
    • Interest in urban planning, architecture, and industrial reuse
    • Prior work experience in a related field of practice such as urban planning, public policy, philanthropy, landscape architecture, etc.

    Abilities

    • Able to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends
    • Domestic travel required to visit other sites and conferences
    • Ability to work in a small, fast-paced, and flexible office environment

    Friends of the High Line raises nearly 100% of the High Line's annual budget. Owned by the City of New York, the High Line is a public park maintained, operated, and programmed by Friends of the High Line, in partnership with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
