    WHOOP DEE DOO is seeking a freelance Grant Writer/Development Associate to join our team immediately. This is a 3-month contractual position that will run from approximately October through December 2024, with the potential to continue on an ongoing basis. Experience working with arts nonprofits is preferred. This is a remote position. We aim to fill this position as soon as possible.     WHOOP DEE DOO is a non-profit arts organization that creates live performances, immersive installations, and educational programming through community-engaged collaboration. WHOOP DEE DOO partners with museums, galleries, arts organizations, festivals, schools and universities, and thoughtfully constructs its programming to be uniquely cross-generational, inclusive, and specific to the needs of our partner organizations and each of our collaborators. Every production comes together in a flexible and participatory process that works to achieve each participants’ creative goals. 

    Since 2006, WHOOP DEE DOO has created over 50 large-scale commissioned projects for organizations including SFMOMA, The Smart Museum (Chicago), Loyal (Sweden), POP Montreal, The Kemper Museum (Kansas City), The St. Louis Museum of Art, The Contemporary (Baltimore), Utah MOCA, The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art (Philadelphia), Knockdown Center (Queens, NY), and Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (San Francisco), among others. 

    Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

    The Grant Writer/Development Associate will be responsible for researching new funding opportunities as well as developing and writing grant proposals with the purpose of securing funding for WHOOP DEE DOO to support our current programming. WHOOP DEE DOO is currently in a moment of financial and programmatic growth. Given this, a main priority for this role is capacity building, reapplying for previously awarded grants, and advancing current funding strategies while strengthening existing relationships with partners and funders.

    The Grant Writer/Development Associate will be responsible for:

    • Conducting activities required to research, conceptualize, write, submit, and manage grant proposals
    • Research funding sources to support WHOOP DEE DOO’s programming
    • Working with staff to collect relevant information to create compelling grant applications and supporting documentation
    • Seeking and developing new relationships with key stakeholders in the community and philanthropic sector
    • Assisting as needed in other areas of fundraising and writing projects as requested

    Qualifications:

    • Relevant development experience
    • 3+ years of grant writing experience for philanthropic funding
    • Proficient with measuring and reaching income goals and crafting funding proposals in a clear, persuasive and compelling manner
    • Excellent organization skills and communication skills, both verbal and written
    • Enjoyment of fundraising; driven and enthusiastic about asking others to contribute to a worthy cause
    • Ability to meet deadlines

    Salary:

    $45-$90 per hour (commensurate upon experience)
