    Resident Services Goal: Transformational Engagement - Build and sustain healthy, beautiful, and equitable communities with our residents to open doors through which they can create homes, neighborhoods, and the lives they want to live. The four cornerstones of Resident Services programming are Education, Economic Mobility, Health & Wellness, and Community Engagement.

    Position Purpose: Working with the Program Manager for Volunteer Resources, the Volunteer Coordinator will implement and support volunteer initiatives that align with our mission to create quality homes and provide holistic resident services. The Volunteer Coordinator will oversee the day-to-day efforts to recruit, train, and support volunteers so the volunteers can successfully support AHC residents and programs. 

    Duties: 

    1. Recruit, Train, and Manage Volunteers: Survey RS staff about volunteer needs. Recruit, screen and match volunteers to specific volunteer roles. Implement orientation and training programs for all volunteers. Provide ongoing support and guidance for volunteers as well as the onsite staff who supervise them. Visit AHC sites to support and observe volunteer interactions, provide guidance and feedback and inform future training topics.
    2. Respond to individual and group volunteer inquiries. 
    3. Facilitate Communication with Volunteers: Maintain consistent, positive communication with volunteers and staff, sharing AHC news and other announcements. Troubleshoot challenges to overcome barriers to successful volunteer experiences. 
    4. Support Volunteer Retention Strategies: Enhance volunteer retention through regular communication, follow-up, and targeted service opportunities that impact the volunteer’s experience. Coordinate appreciation activities and solicit feedback to cultivate a culture of value and meaning for volunteers.
    5. Coordinate In-Kind Contributions: Manage and expand in-kind donation volunteer opportunities like AHC’s snack bag and holiday gift bag programs. Respond to other offers of in-kind donations to the organization and solicit in-kind donations as needed. Acknowledge volunteer in-kind and financial donations in a timely manner. 
    6. Support Special Events: Work with RS staff, including community engagement staff, to support special events including but not limited to Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday events, Community Days, and Backpack/School Supply drive and distribution.
    7. Collect and Manage Data for Reporting Purposes: Manage systems to collect data on volunteer duties and hours. Compile and enter relevant data in online database. Produce monthly progress reports and other reports, as requested.
    8. Promote volunteer opportunities: Collaborating with the Community Relations team, increase public awareness of volunteer opportunities and Resident Services programs through AHC’s website, newsletter and social media. Maintain volunteer listings on volunteering matching websites and attend monthly meetings with volunteer agencies like Volunteer Arlington.
    9. Perform Other Duties as Instructed by Supervisor. 

    Job Requirements:   

    1. Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills essential
    2. Strong motivation and the ability to work independently but also as a team with many different partners.
    3. Passion for AHC’s mission and strong interest and knowledge in volunteering, volunteer management, social services and local non-profit organizations preferred. 
    4. Ability to interact with a diverse population of volunteers and clients both in terms of age, economic status and cultural background
    5. Computer skills in Microsoft Office—Excel, Word, Outlook (PowerPoint and Publisher preferred)
    6. Database experience, accurate typing, and data entry proficiency strongly preferred
    7. Bachelor’s degree plus at least 1-3 years of volunteer management work experience
    8. Bilingual English-Spanish fluency preferred.
