    Position Summary

    CHESSA seeks a Manager, Member Relations to engage and grow the association’s membership base, as well as identify and solve member needs. This position will play a key role in expanding and retaining CHESSA members, hosting membership events, and helping achieve the association’s revenue goals to fund our work to support the solar and energy storage industries in the Chesapeake region (Maryland, D.C. & Virginia).

    Core Duties & Responsibilities

    Candidates with experience in association management, customer service, member acquisition, database management, and event planning are highly preferred. Experience in the renewable energy industry is desired but not required.

    • Position reports directly to the CHESSA Executive Director
    • Organize the annual member meeting and legislative/lobbying events in our region’s state capitals, as well as other member engagement events.
    • Coordinate the planning of Solar Focus, our annual conference, supported by contract resources and an event planner
    • Oversee development, planning, and management of organization’s membership strategies, including prospect-identification, member solicitation, and onboarding
    • Interact with potential members, communicate the benefits of CHESSA and encourage prospects to apply for membership
    • Create and maintain detailed membership records for the CHESSA Executive Director and Board of Directors
    • Participate and occasionally moderate monthly engagements with membership, including policy meetings, webinars, and online meetings
    • Attend conferences, trade shows, and community events as part of membership recruitment strategies, including but not limited to running the association’s booth
    • Create marketing collateral to assist with membership growth and retention
    • Create external communications materials for our membership and external parties, including running the association’s email newsletter, creating and posting social media content, and updating the membership on association activities
    • Coordinate and execute specific tasks associated with member development activities, such as drafting membership emails, copywriting, editing, graphic design, or other activities as needed
    • Other duties as assigned

    The ideal candidate will have these qualifications:

    • 1-2 years of professional experience
    • Strong communication skills required applied in various media (ie. email, in-person, virtual meetings, and phone conversations).
    • Self-starter – can work independently and remotely to meet firm deadlines
    • Experience preferred in non-profit fundraising, trade association member development, renewable energy industry sales, or other relevant work
    • Strong organizational skills, willingness to learn various technology platforms; Comfortable following procedures and standard processes while having an ability to work on the fly in a start-up atmosphere

    Working Conditions

    • A candidate should be based in Maryland, Virginia, or the District of Columbia
    • Work is in a remote-office environment
    • Some travel is required for association events, external meetings, regional energy events, and visiting member offices

    Compensation Range

    $60,000 - $70,000 annually, based on experience, plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus, and a health insurance stipend

    CHESSA is the Chesapeake Solar and Storage Association, a 40-year-old solar and energy storage trade association representing companies in Annapolis, Richmond, and locally in Washington, D.C. We primarily represent solar and energy storage companies across residential, commercial, community solar, and wholesale market segments, and all parts of the supply chain

    We are the official regional affiliate of the Solar Energy Industries Association in the Chesapeake region.

    Our members are responsible for billions of dollars of economic activity across the Mid-Atlantic United States. We engage with legislators, regulators, stakeholders, and our industry partners to create growth opportunities for our members and the solar and energy storage industries at-large.

    The position is eligible for a health insurance stipend, annual bonus, and a home office set-up stipend.
