    GREENMARKET HIRING & STAFFING ASSISTANT (Full-Time)

    Position Summary

    Reporting directly to the Greenmarket Administrative Manager, the Greenmarket Hiring & Staffing Assistant collaborates with Greenmarket supervisory staff to coordinate scheduling, communications, and human resource needs for field staff. The Greenmarket Hiring & Staffing Assistant must also develop familiarity with all Greenmarket Site Leads, market locations, and shift responsibilities.

    Requirements

    Greenmarket Hiring & Staffing Assistant Responsibilities (Include but are not limited to):

    Recruitment Support 

    • Provide assistance with reviewing candidates for Greenmarket field staff positions and conduct reference checks as necessary.
    • Assist with scheduling interviews and communicating with applicants and supervisory staff, as needed.
    • Conduct candidate interviews and collaborate with the Greenmarket Administrative Manager to determine candidates’ suitability for the position.
    • Collaborate closely with the Greenmarket Administrative Manager and Human Resources Department (HR) to finalize job offers and onboard new team members.
    • Work closely with HR to support disciplinary processes, may assist with performance review processes, and confidential HR procedures.

    Staff Management Support

    • Create, maintain, and update various staffing documents, spreadsheets, and the market coverage calendar on a daily basis.
    • Support the successful and complete onboarding of hourly field staff in partnership with HR and Greenmarket supervisory staff.
    • Act as a point of contact for both Greenmarket supervisory staff and field staff, managing their inquiries and offering valuable resources and support.
    • Work with the Greenmarket Administrative Manager to ensure prompt and accurate communication with field staff and Regional Managers for required training, market schedules, and market coverage needs that arise due to time-off requests or callouts, sometimes on very short notice. May require on-call capacity outside of regular work hours.
    • Assist with weekly staffing and planning meetings and support planning discussions for short-term and long-term staffing needs. 
    • Coordinate weekly updates to Greenmarket field staff schedules with the Greenmarket Administrative Manager.
    • Collaborate with GrowNYC Food Access programs to support staffing and scheduling at FAA field sites.
    • Provide support with timesheet approvals in coordination with Greenmarket supervisory staff and HR.
    • Assist with special projects as needed. 

    Field Support

    • Be on-call to provide field coverage as a Greenmarket Site Lead at any GrowNYC Greenmarket site, sometimes with very short notice.
    • Assist with coordinating equipment drop-offs, van swaps, and other operations projects as needed.
    • Assist with training new field staff, as needed.

    Qualifications

    • 1-2 years of administrative support experience.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Outstanding time management skills and a proactive, results-driven orientation.
    • Flexible approach to work, with the ability to focus on meeting emergent needs, and juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced team environment.
    • Experience managing a high volume of work with efficiency, accuracy, and self-direction.
    • Motivated self-starter who can identify problems and create systems to solve them.
    • Resourcefulness, creativity, energy, and the flexibility to respond to diverse, strong personalities and daily questions that accompany operating open-air farmers markets in New York City.
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize duties, and multi-task to effectively support staff and maintain professional relationships/boundaries with staff, farmers, and the public.
    • A calm demeanor, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism while maintaining an adequate level of confidentiality as needed.
    • Superior customer service skills, including the ability and resolve complaints and misunderstandings kindly and firmly
    • Serve as liaison between field workers and management team, while keeping consistency with overall business goals
    • Ability to articulate GrowNYC’s mission to a diverse customer base 
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and Adobe.
    • A valid New York State driver's license for at least one year, with a satisfactory driving record.

    Ideal Qualifications

    • Experience in/exposure to the nonprofit sector.
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
    • Strong knowledge of, and interest in, issues relating to local food, sustainable agriculture, and food access.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods of time, and operate a vehicle.

    Schedule

    This position requires flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and early mornings. Working days will vary based on market coverage needs, with an expected weekly workload of 35-40 hours from Tuesday through Saturday. This hybrid role requires three days in the office (including mandatory office attendance on Wednesdays. Flexibility and the ability to be “on-call” on weekends and evenings for last-minute coverage requests is required.

    Compensation

    The position is a non-exempt, full-time, salaried position. It pays $50,000 - $52,000 annually and includes full benefits (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential for parental leave for full-time regular employees who have been employed with GrowNYC for 175 days and FSA programs). The position is non-union-eligible/not part of the bargaining unit.

    Location

    This position will work a flexible hybrid schedule, both working from home and the GrowNYC office, in addition to Greenmarket locations that operate in all five boroughs, all of which are outdoors.
