The Department of Cultural Affairs' Percent for Art Program administers New York City's Percent for Art Law, which requires that 1% of the construction budget of newly constructed or reconstructed city-owned buildings be allocated to the commission, purchase or restoration of art work for the site. The artist image registry is an essential part of the Percent for Art Program. It contains the work of over 2,000 artists who are interested in being commissioned to create work for public sites. It is consulted for each Percent for Art project and is used by outside art consultants.
