Town of Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor is more than a vacation destination. It serves as the center of economic activity for Mount Desert Island and supports a wide range of professions, from multi‐generation lobstermen, boat builders and artists to scientists, entrepreneurs and academics. However, in light of the climate emergency it is very apparent that we could lose all of this if we don't begin thinking about local solutions now.

In light of the climate crisis, the Town of Bar Harbor is working fervently to change the tides of historical unsustainable practices by implementing equitable community development that re-thinks and creatively redesigns the functions of our town. Developing plans for sustainable energy, accessible transportation, affordable housing, equitable economic benefits, eco-tourism, and climate education are ways in which we want to serve our entire community.

The effects of climate change will be drastic, but the strength of the community can overcome it if we are building the future together.
