    New Haven Communities is a Behavioral Health Residential Facility for teenage (12-17) adolescents.

    The residents primarily identify in High Risk Populations and the LGBTQIA+ community and are in need of a safe nurturing, community-based, professionally supervised environment to assist them in furthering their treatment objective, and help them acquire life skills that are essential for activities of daily living and eventual transitioning into the community. The residents have a mental impairment that require 24/7 supervision and assistance in order to perform basic life activities such as caring for self, performing basic tasks, and learning. They receive individual/group therapy and family therapy when needed. In addition to the clinical services, our staff and volunteers work with our residents in the following areas:

    1. Independent Living Skills: personal-care (dressing/hygiene/grooming), food preparation, household maintenance, laundry, budgeting, time management, shopping, avoidance of exploitation, safety education and awareness, etc.;

    2. Community Reintegration Skills: resume writing, seeking appropriate employment opportunities, volunteering, assistance with educational opportunities, public transportation system use, understanding community resources, etc.;

    3. Social Communication Skills: LGBTQIA+ education, following directions, collaborating with peers, conflict and anger management, same/opposite-sex friendships, development of social support networks, problem-solving, etc.;

    4. Recreational and Leisure Skills: exercising, nature walking, hiking, biking, swimming, sports, reading, meditation, games, art, etc.;

    5. Assistance in the self-administration of medication.

    Target Populations & Ages: High risk adolescent girls and boys ages 12-17, and LGBTQI+ and allied youth populations.
