    Position: Associate Director of Community Organizing

    Location: Los Angeles office

    Status: Full-time, exempt (40 hours per week)

    ABOUT CNVP

    The California Native Vote Project’s (CNVP) mission is justice and self-determination for Native American communities through multigenerational power building, organizing, and civic engagement. CNVP is the first-of-its-kind statewide effort to engage Native American communities across dozens of counties to build political power through an integrated voter engagement strategy, which centers community organizing, and braids on top of that other strategies to achieve people-powered movements — including political education, leadership development; voter education, registration and protections; policy advocacy; research; and Native candidate preparation.

    Position Overview

    The Associate Director of Organizing will assist in directing next phase of the CNVP’s organizing strategy. This position requires someone with significant political and/or community organizing, strategic campaign development, and supervisory experience. This role, in collaboration with senior leadership, will serve as a key decision maker in strategies for Southern California organizing and campaign work; leader on projects and initiatives; and represent CNVP at partner and coalition tables. This position will also build out organizing training and mentorship programs for both internal and external audiences.

    This role will have direct reports. The position is full‐time and exempt.

    Essential Responsibilities

    ● Develop, implement, and evaluate an organizing strategic plan in collaboration with all the teams. This should include understanding the needed number of organizers, types of training, and logistical needs for accomplishing the plan and maintaining organizational culture and morale.

    ● Act as a spokesperson for CNVP with allied organizations, community groups and media.

    ● Co-create with staff and delivers Indigenous values-based organizing curriculum to internal and external audiences, including knowledge bases such as campaign development, base building, effective one-on-ones, and more.

    ● Lead planning, strategy, and implementation of organizing campaigns in partnership with senior leadership team.

    ● Develop political and community support for organizing campaigns in accordance with 501(c)3 guidelines.

    ● Lead the evaluation of organizing, mobilizing, and engagement strategies and campaigns — define and track success metrics, communicate findings and implement improvements.

    ● Support a culture of excellence, teamwork, inclusiveness, and accountability; build leadership practices that support the recruitment, development, engagement, and retention of a talented organizing team.

    ● Create, maintain, evaluate, and adapt a structure that informs the necessary teams of impacted community members experiences, priorities, and concerns to develop community-supported solutions.

    ● Provide supervision, leadership, and mentorship to the organizing staff, offering ongoing feedback and opportunities for growth and professional development. Ensure that the team has clarity at all levels by modeling, building, and supporting effective communication, coordination, and a performance-oriented culture.

    ● Coordinate increases in membership base.

    ● Develop uniform standards for review and evaluation of campaigns and develops metrics tomeasure campaigns’ effectiveness.

    ● Ensure the tracking, reporting and analysis of all membership activity in their purview.

    ● Develop recommended budgets, allocate resources effectively, and plan and implement program activities as appropriate.

    ● Other duties as assigned.

    Essential Requirements:

    ● Experience working with Native American communities and Tribal organizations preferred, and a demonstrated commitment to and passion for the mission, vision, and values of CNVP.

    ● At least three years of experience-preferably running campaigns, mobilizing, organizing, and running recruitment drives, plus two years supervisory experience with a non-profit organization.

    ● Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.

    ● Adept at leading and motivating workers in necessary struggles, including a strong commitment to sovereignty, social justice, racial justice, and youth empowerment.

    ● Awareness of and proficiency with digital organizing communications technologies.

    ● Comfortable with leading and training staff around organizing skills, including mobilizing, organizing, and leadership development.

    ● Experience with PDI and other organizing databases.

    ● Familiarity with strategic analytical tools such as power mapping or identifying a spectrum of allies. As well as familiarity with public engagement methods such as digital action alerts, public demonstrations, digital organizing, or other creative public support tactics.

    ● Demonstrated success in growing and developing an organized base of members, constituents, or community members to achieve organizational goals.

    ● Effective collaborator with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with stakeholders, the community, team members, and senior management.

    ● Strong and confident leadership; experience leading teams.

    ● Effective facilitating and organizing meeting skills.

    ● Excellent analytical and judgment skills as demonstrable by the ability to assess information, evidence, and act strategically.

    ● Excellent attention to detail and follow‐through.

    ● Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and projects.

    ● Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively.

    ● Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of power mapping relationships and systems.

    ● Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and a variety of applications.

    ● California driver’s license, insurance, and regular access to a 4‐5 seat passenger car to drive long distances to tribes and transport outreach materials

    ● Available to work flexible hours, including afternoons and occasional evening and weekend events.

    ● Ability to travel throughout the state as needed.

    Preferred Qualifications

    ● Experience with one or more of the following areas: community organizing, action research, campaign strategy, curriculum development, alliance building, campaign development and/or policy.

    ● Proficiency with Apple computers.

    Work Environment

    Hybrid in-person (two days a week or possibly more based on need) and virtual, with some evening and weekends required. Some travel is also required.

    Physical Demands

    ● Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard.

    ● Able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

    ● Able to occasionally lift objects weighing up to twenty pounds.

    Compensation and Benefits

    The salary range is $90-105K.
