    Board of Directors Member

Are you interested in volunteering to serve on the Board of an organization making a difference in the lives of immigrants? Florida Immigration Law and Justice Center (hereafter, Florida ILJ) currently seeks board members to serve two-year terms.

The Florida ILJ Board of Directors guides and supports the work of staff. Monthly board meetings are held virtually, and a one-day, on-site retreat is scheduled annually. Expectations for Board members are to:

    -              Participate in 80% or more of the board meetings.

    -              Review board meeting materials in advance and be prepared for discussions during the board meeting, asking questions when necessary to promote and gain understanding.

    -              Honor each member of the board and hold each other accountable to our guiding principles.

    -              Provide professional advice or support on topics or issues important to the work of Florida ILJ, both during board meetings and as requested at other times.

    -              Participate actively in at least one committee or task force, becoming involved with the work of the organization.

    -              Participate in board retreats, board staff meetings, and other team building and work gatherings. Participate fully in accomplishing the priorities and goals established by the Board.

    -              Respond to emails and calls from other board members or FL ILJ staff promptly.

    -              Make an annual, unrestricted contribution to Florida ILJ at a level that is personally significant as a commitment to the organization and to best practices of leadership.

    -              Participate actively in the process of identifying potential funders and sponsors for Florida ILJ.

    -              Participate in fundraising events and campaigns by attending, carrying out assignments and identifying potential sponsors.

    -              Engage in the stewardship process of thanking donors and articulating the impact of their giving.

    -              Inform yourself continuously about the mission and programs of Florida ILJ and tell others about your involvement in the organization. Identify opportunities to benefit Florida ILJ through your contacts and their resources. Connect those opportunities to the organization.
