    2024 YRES Summer Camp Volunteer - Richmond Hill

    About York Region Educational Services and this Opportunity:

    York Region Educational Services (YRES) is a not-for-profit organization that provides individuals in the vicinity of York Region with free or affordable educational resources in a safe and supportive environment that inspires, motivates, and helps set the foundation for personal growth. We are seeking volunteers that are interested in supporting our Summer Camp at a public school location in Richmond Hill. 


    Key responsibilities are as follows:

    • Assist camp counsellors in leading small-group activities and team-building exercises, when instructed
    • Ensure campers are safe, supervised, and abiding by camp rules at all times
    • Communicate with campers, parents (occasionally), and other staff members
    • Attend meetings and training sessions as required in June
    • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the campsite 
    • Support counsellors with snack and meal preparation 
    • Help manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise


    Time commitment:

    • Camp runs from July 8 to August 16, 2024, from 9 am to 4 pm on weekdays 
    • There are three shift options: mornings at (8am to 12:30pm), afternoons at (12pm to 4:30pm), and full day (8am to 4:30pm)
    • Your commitment must be by the week (Monday to Friday), e.g., the week of July 8


    Camp location: A public school in Richmond Hill (to be announced later in April by the school board)

    This is one of four locations across Richmond Hill, Markham, and Toronto/Scarborough.


    A great candidate for this position will possess the following: 

    • Must be 14+ years of age
    • At least 3 months of experience working with children, preferred
    • Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills
    • Collaboration skills
    • Self--management skills and the ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct - YOU are the role model 
    • Enthusiasm and passion towards working with children
