    Description

    The British Charitable Society is a private foundation that helps British nationals in New England through emergencies by providing one-off relief and support.  First established back in 1816, we work across the six states to support British citizens and those from the British Overseas Territories who find themselves in crisis.  We're looking for new volunteers to support our critical work and you can help!

    State Ambassadors are volunteers who are our advocates on the ground in each of the six New England states.  With an ear to the ground in their area, they are able to find new opportunities to build our capacity to help people in need. Our SAs:

    • Identify new local avenues to reach those in need and increase awareness of our services in the community;
    • Identify and connect with relevant local organizations and develop potential partnership opportunities;
    • Act as an ambassador and advocate for the work of BCS in the chosen state as opportunities arise.

    Suitable candidates for State Ambassador will:

    • Demonstrate a keen interest in the purpose and mission of BCS, with kindness and compassion for those BCS assists;
    • Be willing to take the initiative to identify and pursue new ways to fulfill our mission;
    • Preferably demonstrate an understanding of social services, poverty or critical needs in the chosen community;
    • Have strong links with, or knowledge of, the United Kingdom or its overseas territories;
    • Be able to represent BCS at events and fundraisers digitally and across the state, ideally as a resident of that state;
    • Be welcoming and compassionate to all regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality, ability or religious beliefs.

    If you would like to be considered for this position, please send a cover letter outlining your qualifications and why you are interested in supporting our work, along with a copy of your resume, to volunteer@britishcharitablesociety.org

    Why do we volunteer with BCS?

    Our volunteers lend their time to BCS for many different reasons:

    • To do good.  BCS helps those in need.  For a volunteer, it can be as simple as that - providing real, tangible support to people in crisis is immensely rewarding.
    • To be part of a storied history.  The mission of BCS has been the same for over 200 years.  Continuing that legacy of kindness is a responsibility as meaningful as the aid we provide.
    • For professional experience.  BCS are able to tailor volunteer roles in support of a volunteer's personal and professional development goals.  BCS provides a supportive environment to meet your needs and interests.
    • For the flexible time commitments.  BCS is always cognizant of outside roles and responsibilities, and ensures that the time commitments of volunteer roles work for you.
