About Us
Founded in 1982, Pets on Wheels is a nonprofit organization comprised of over 500 volunteers who with their own therapy certified pets visit residents in over 300 nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, schools, and other facilities in the state of Maryland. Our volunteer teams provide over 10,000 hours of pet therapy visits in our communities annually. Pets on Wheels volunteers serve our local communities in order to promote the benefits of healing and rehabilitating humans through the bonding with therapy-certified animals and, thereby, to help to “lick loneliness”.
