Prevent Blindness Texas

  • About Us

The mission of Prevent Blindness Texas (PBT) is to prevent blindness, preserve sight, and enhance and extend the quality of vision for all residents of Texas. With our focus on public health, Prevent Blindness Texas conducts free vision screenings for thousands of indigent, low-income, homeless or uninsured children, seniors, and adults each year and provides vouchers for free eye exams and free prescription glasses. PBT also trains and certifies our vision screeners for children and adults through the only national program of its kind, providing more than 400 volunteers annually to conduct screenings across Texas. We focus on teaching health professionals and the public about diabetes and its effect on eyes, along with age-related eye conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma.
