    As more of our daily life flows through and occurs within media, media is gaining an unprecedented power to shape consciousness and culture. Harmony Institute exists to understand this complex system, and to help people use it wisely.

    Leveraging the massive volumes of data today’s media generate, Harmony Institute is on a mission to discover the patterns and principles that underlie the interaction of media and society and the emergence of culture.

    We are an independent applied research lab, a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, practitioners, thinkers and doers, working across sectors, fields and institutions. We have partnered with or received funding from academic institutions, private foundations, advocacy organizations, media publishers, tech companies and others, like the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, The Ford Foundation, The Fledgling Fund, Columbia University, Free Press, MTV and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Harmony Institute is a 501(c)3 based in New York City.
