Our Mission: Strengthening kids and communities through the power of their own stories.

LitWorld is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization creating permanent positive change in the world. We implement on-the-ground innovative solutions to the hard-to-tackle challenge of illiteracy worldwide. The combined power of children’s own stories + access to diverse reading/writing experiences + peer to peer and adult mentor relationships = productive and transformational literacy. We work in close and trusting partnerships with locally based, grassroots organizations to build sustainable outcomes for young people around the world.

From its founding in 2007, LitWorld has exemplified the word global, reaching from Harlem to Nairobi to the Navajo Nation to Iraq to Ghana to Yonkers to Liberia. LitWorld joins together with teachers, parents, community members, and children to support sustainable literacy through the redemptive power of story in the world's most vulnerable communities. LitWorld educates community members to become literacy leaders through easy-to-use programs and resources and creates access to print materials that will help all children learn to read and write. Founded on the belief that children will grow to be empowered, healthy, and productive global citizens through the power of literacy, LitWorld works towards this goal worldwide through Education, Advocacy and Innovation.
