Founded in 2002, OLA of Eastern Long Island, Inc. (OLA—Organización Latino Americana) works to create a more equitable East End for Latino immigrants through advocating for just and inclusive government and school policies; protecting families; nurturing power and unity among Latinos through leadership workshops and other programs; and building bridges among different sectors of the East End community through celebrating arts and culture. Social justice and equity are at the core of OLA’s mission. From fighting for the right of day laborers in the mid-2000s to stand in public places to seek work, to advocating for local governments and police departments to adopt policies to protect immigrant community members from indiscriminate ICE activity, OLA has been at the forefront of seeking justice for East End immigrants.
