People's Tech Project

People’s Tech Project supports community groups fighting at the intersection of social and tech justice to win a future where technology helps build dignity, justice, and liberation, rather than exacerbating oppression and harm in the hands of big corporations and the state.

People's Tech emerged from a long history of community organizing in Philadelphia on issues involving racial justice and technology. Though we are new as our own entity, we have rich experience in this field through our work at Movement Alliance Project, now our fiscal sponsor, and have led many successful local and national campaigns around issues like limiting corporate power, policing technology, and predictive analytics.

People's Tech was launched in June 2022 to focus on the issues facing both local movement groups and the national sector fighting for tech justice. We aim to work to establish a strong and coherent social movement ecosystem in Philadelphia that is armed with the analysis to anticipate and understand how technology oppresses people, and incorporates that analysis into their fights to win human liberation over the long term. We also aim to build a national tech justice sector that is grounded in the material needs and leadership of impacted communities and that works with social movements to win power away from the tech sector.
