  • About Us

Congregation Am Tivah, located in San Francisco, CA, is a newly formed, warm, inclusive congregation born from the merger of two communities each with a rich, multi-faceted history. We are egalitarian and spiritually vibrant, affiliated with both the Conservative and Reform movements. We were born in October 2021 from the merger of two historic congregations: Congregation B’nai Emunah, a Conservative congregation founded in 1949 by German Jewish refugees from Shanghai; and Congregation Beth Israel Judea, itself a congregation which was dual-affiliated, and became solely Reform 10 years ago, whose roots go back to 1860. Our membership includes longtime members who have served as leaders in both congregations, and families with children, teens, and students. We are deeply involved in the broader community through social action initiatives such as refugee resettlement, LGBTQ inclusion, and homelessness. Congregation Am Tikvah is embarking on an exciting project as we seek our permanent location and build the leadership team that will help our congregation grow and thrive.
