  • About Us

Friends of Rockaway (FoR) is a community-based nonprofit organization rebuilding and repairing homes for low to moderate income families affected by Hurricane Sandy in the Rockaway Peninsula and southern Brooklyn. By leveraging AmeriCorps members and volunteers, we are able to rebuild homes far below market rate, and carry out construction projects with much lower subsidies than traditional affordable housing models.

In 2015, FoR rebuilt 74 homes and engaged with over 4,000 volunteers. Our parent organization, the St. Bernard Project, is additionally working on the ground in New Orleans, LA; Monmouth & Ocean Counties, NJ; San Marcos, TX; and Columbia, SC to bring families home in a prompt, efficient and predictable manner.
