About Us
Network for Education and Academic Rights (NEAR) is a membership-based, non-governmental organisation which facilitates collaboration between organisations active in issues of academic freedom and educational rights, and those committed to promoting an understanding of, and respect for, the values enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Through information sharing, campaigns, lobbying and international workshops, NEAR aims to increase awareness of breaches to academic freedom and appropriate responses and encourage cooperation and partnerships.
NEAR was launched at the UNESCO offices in Paris on 18-19 June 2001.
