About Us
Kansas Holistic Defenders is a non-profit public defender office, representing poor and working class people charged with misdemeanors in Douglas County, Kansas.
Our Mission: To defend Kansans effectively, zealously, and respectfully. We will use an interdisciplinary, holistic approach to champion our clients’ individual goals and address the root causes of their involvement in the legal system.
Our vision of holistic defense is a “team-based” approach to criminal defense. Our office will employ full-time social workers, investigators, client advocates and specialist attorneys to address clients’ collateral consequences resulting from, and contributing to, involvement in the criminal legal system. Misdemeanors are a crucial point of entry into the system, in which a holistic approach can make a difference.
