Background
In collaboration with the community and Rwanda’s leadership, Rwanda Girls Initiative (RGI) was founded in order to establish an upper-secondary boarding school, Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology (GGAST), that removes the many barriers to education that girls’ face. GGAST first opened its doors in 2011 and has graduated 528 dynamic young leaders.
STEM Education
As a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) school, our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation has nurtured students to become leaders in the country in academic and entrepreneurial achievements that will help transform the nation, and continent by developing the next generation of scientists, social entrepreneurs, advocates and thought leaders who will bring new insights and solutions to the biggest global challenges we face.
Educate the Whole Girl
Everyday, we have the privilege of educating and inspiring 275 dedicated and passionate young women through our innovative model of education that combines strong college-prep academics, along with health, social and emotional development and extracurricular programs.
We holistically develop our students passions, interests, leadership, competitive and entrepreneurial spirits, and athletic pursuits.
Further we empower the girls to achieve full agency by offering leadership opportunities, teaching mental health literacy, developing social and emotional skills, and intentional programming like direct involvement in school decision-making processes.
Armed with the belief that they have a connection to their local community, students feel a responsibility to play an active role in impacting change. Each week students serve the local community including computer skills training, primary school English tutoring and volunteering at the local medical center.
Foster a Strong Sisterhood
We created a culture that fosters a deep belief in oneself and one another. Gashora Girls know that anything is possible– and they are strongest when they support and encourage one another
