WHO WE ARE

America’s Watershed Initiative (AWI) is made up of public, private, and nonprofit leaders working together voluntarily to improve the health of the Mississippi River Watershed by informing, advocating, and leveraging improved decision-making about the watershed’s natural resources.

OUR VISION

AWI envisions a watershed with an abundant supply of clean water, reduced flood risk, resilient communities, healthy and productive ecosystems, sustainable agriculture, and a world-class inland  navigation network. We will achieve this through a participatory and transparent approach that fosters collaboration across government, academia, industry, and NGOs.

WHAT WE’VE DONE

 As the only non-profit organization working across the entire basin and across all sectors, AWI delivers scientifically sound information and promotes integrated planning. Through our rigorous Mississippi River Watershed Report Card, AWI identifies and communicates the watershed’s most critical challenges and opportunities to diverse audiences. We are also engaged with federal, state, Industry and NGO partners to build a Mississippi River Coalition that promotes shared solutions and increases funding and attention on the nation’s most important river system.
