    The Health Effects Institute (HEI) is a leading independent, nonprofit research institute that has provided rigorous, impartial, and important science to national and global public debates on the health effects of air pollution over the last thirty-five years. Supported jointly by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the automotive industry, and periodically by other domestic and international partners, HEI funds scientific research at national and international academic institutions to inform key regulatory decisions and other actions that are directly relevant to improving air quality.
