  • About Us

The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens was founded in 1919 by Henry E. Huntington—an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and chief architect of a decade of explosive growth in Southern California. Today, The Huntington estate encompasses 207 acres and includes ten galleries for rotating exhibitions, distinguished collections of American and European Art housed across 57,000 square feet of gallery space, a library holding nine million items, and over 15,000 types of plants landscaped into 16 gardens. Situated just 11 miles from downtown Los Angeles, The Huntington is the fourth most-visited cultural institution in Los Angeles County, and hosts more than 800,000 visitors each year.
