Backstretch Education Fund, Inc.

Elmont, NY

  • About Us

BEF provides educational opportunities for the backstretch workers of New York State’s thoroughbred racetracks. Workers at Belmont, Aqueduct, and Saratoga—mostly Latino immigrants—endure long hours for little pay and face poor living conditions as they move from track to track with their racing teams. Our programs in English language, horsemanship, and computer literacy at Belmont enable these workers to create better lives for themselves.
