The North Carolina Chapter is an administrative unit of the National Association of Social Workers which is headquartered in Washington DC. NASW-NC was developed in 1955 and the Chapter currently has 5 staff and 5,000 members. The Chapter owns office space located in historic Oakwood in downtown Raleigh, within walking distance of the North Carolina General Assembly, legislative and state offices.
Most NASW-NC members are master's level educated social workers who work in various practice settings across North Carolina. The Chapter also has significant numbers of bachelors (BSW) level members and student members.
NASW is a membership organization that promotes, develops, and protects the practice of social work and social workers. NASW also seeks to enhance the effective functioning and well being of individuals, families and communities through its work and advocacy.
