  • About Us

BK ROT is NYC’s oldest bike powered commercial organic waste hauling and composting service. Our operations are staffed by youth and young adults (17-24) who receive stipends to collect food scraps by bike and maintain our compost processing site.  The service operates within Bushwick, north Bedford-Stuyvesant, south Ridgewood and East Williamsburg. The project works at the intersection of environmental and social justice work to increase composting in our community through the empowerment of local youth. The project stems from the principle that ecological work is valuable and offers work opportunities our entire community could easily support.
