The American Language Center, commonly referred to as the ALC, is part of the American Cultural Association (ACA). The ACA is a private, non-profit [IRS 501(c)(3)], bi-national educational institution, registered in the State of California, as well as in the Kingdom of Morocco. There are 12 ALCs in Morocco, each with a great degree of autonomy; however, we collaborate extensively together to fulfill the mission of the ACA, while being free to meet the varying needs of the local communities we serve. At the American Language Center in Tetouan, we work hard to offer high quality English courses, provide Teacher Professional Development to public and private school teachers, engage in meaningful community service projects, and to serve as an engine for cultural exchange to the people of Tetouan and its region.2014 saw our staff grow to 21 full, and part-time employees with enrollment of nearly 700 students. We administer a US State Department Access Microscholarship Grant for 30 underprivileged teenagers, and maintain a girls club for poor girls from a local public boarding school. This year we forged ties with the local university providing special speakers to graduate students in science. We are looking for short-term volunteers who want to experience the wonders, frustrations, and hospitality that come with living in Tetouan, while sharing their lives with local Moroccans.
