Positive Directions - The Center for Prevention and Counseling, Inc.

  • About Us

As we enter our 50th year of operation, the organization is healthy and well positioned to provide invaluable supports to individuals and communities at a crucial time.

A little more than three years ago, Positive Directions, The Center for Prevention and Counseling, was at an organizational crossroads. At the time, the Board of Directors recognized this valuable community asset needed a new, reinvigorated team of professionals and some “outside of the box” thinking to better provide both prevention and mental health clinical services to our community—all while maintaining fiscal responsibility and sustainability. From 2018 to the start of 2020, Positive Directions evolved in important ways including growing the core clinical practice, enhancing Prevention programming and strengthening the Board and Staff of the agency.

As our community and country faced significant challenges this past year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our organization was thus poised and ready to provide much-needed mental health support to hundreds of our neighbors. In addition, our prevention staff, collaborating with town and city governments and other local partners, continued to ensure that our communities were informed regarding risky behaviors, working to help adolescents and their families make healthy choices and decisions. None of this success would be possible without our incredible staff of dedicated professionals and the significant role our donors have played supporting our work. Since 2018, we have tripled in size and are a thriving agency, well respected throughout our community and the State of Connecticut.
