The Biggs Museum is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) arts organization located in historic, downtown Dover. For eighteen years, the Museum has presented Founder Sewell C. Biggs’ invaluable collection of American art to a diverse public audience. The growing collection of nearly 1,800 objects is the only one in Delaware to provide a full range of fine and decorative arts, reflecting the State of Delaware, the Delmarva Peninsula, and the Mid-Atlantic region. Today, the Museum’s 16 galleries display a careful balance of furniture, paintings, silver, glass, ceramics, and textiles in a timeline presentation from 1700 to the present. This collection has served as a foundation for this organization’s mission: to foster awareness, appreciation and understanding of the arts in our communities. The Museum achieves its mission through preservation and growth of the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions, educational programming, special events, school outreach programs, and publications, all of which are designed to serve, engage and enrich the individual and the community.
