Blue Ridge Bartram Trail Conservancy


  • Mission

    • To recognize and honor the Philadelphia-born naturalist, William Bartram, who traveled through the southeast between the years 1773 and 1777, writing exact and vivid descriptions of the plants and animals he saw and the native tribes he encountered, and who published these writings in 1791 as Travels of William Bartram.
    • To maintain the 112 mile long Bartram National Recreation Trail following a route as close as possible to Bartram’s original route through northeast Georgia and western North Carolina.
    • To promote further inquiry and knowledge about the plants and animals of the southern Appalachians, as well as the traditions and culture of the native Cherokee people, which Bartram encountered on his travels here in 1775.

    About Us

    The Bartram Trail Conservancy serves a large community of outdoor enthusiasts from around the world and locally who utilize the trail for hiking, running, birding, botany, and many other outdoor activities. We have been in existence for over forty years and work to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion on the trail and within our organization. We also have an environmental education mission and work to provide educational opportunities on and off the trail.
