H.I.S. BridgeBuilders

  • About Us

H.I.S. BridgeBuilders' (HISBB) story begins with the personal tragedy of our founders, and our mission has been a faithful response to the vulnerability and inequality that marks life in south and west Dallas. Velma Mitchell and Mike Fechner began HISBB in 1995 after Velma's son, Ramon, fell victim to random gang violence. HISBB started as a partnership with the Dallas Housing Authority (DHA) to create a GED class in Bonton, the community with the highest crime rate in Dallas.

Today, H.I.S. BridgeBuilders is one of the largest urban missionary organizations in the country, offering a time-tested and theologically-grounded solution to solving the problem of poverty in our city.

Our mission is to mobilize the Body of Christ to alleviate poverty by restoring the four fundamental relationships inherent in mankind:

    Relationship with God

    Relationship with self

    Relationship with others

    Relationship with creation/work
