The Oak Park Area Arts Council (OPAAC) is the local arts council serving the tri village communities of Oak Park, Forest Park and River Forest, with a total population of approximately 74,000 residents. OPAAC believes that art is intrinsic to the quality of life in the communities. The OPAAC celebrates, supports, and promotes artists and arts organizations. OPAAC raises funds for the arts and advocates for policies that promote the arts, enhancing the social, economic and cultural foundations of the communities. Following are a few of the many programs and services offered to the tri-village:
ArtsFunds is the OPAAC regranting program that awards grants to 30+non profits on an annual basis. OPAAC has been awarding general operating and special project support grants since 1979.
Off the Wall is a summer arts employment program that has been running since 2005. Young artists 16-22 years old are hired for the 8 week program. They are trained in the art of mosaic tile art by a professional adult artist.
OPAAC coordinates all public art programs and services for the Village of Oak Park. That includes the Community Mini Mural project, the Sculpture Walk program, and coordinating public art requirements for new development.
