  • About Us

Bank Street Graduate School of Education is located in New York City and is committed to learner-centered education with a social justice slant. Cultural touchstones like Goodnight Moon, The Little Golden Books, The Voyage of the Mimi, and Head Start all have roots in our rich history. We're also a big voice in New York City, as noted in the strong relationships we have built with the New York City Department of Education.

Our graduate programs prepare students for work in classrooms, cultural institutions, hospitals, community-based organizations, and other nonprofit work.

For those interested in working as teachers, consider our New York State certification programs in Early Childhood (birth-grade 2), Childhood (grades 1-6), or Adolescent Education (grades 7-12). Within these developmental age bands, we offer special education, dual language/bilingual education, TESOL, museum education, mathematics, and literacy. If you already have certification, you can pursue our special education offerings or our Curriculum & Instruction program, which turns your initial certification into professional certification.

Dual degree programs with Hunter College and Columbia School of Social Work offer two master’s degrees that lead to both a Master of Science in Education and Master of Social Work. For those with three years of professional work as head teachers, we also offer certifications in School Building Leader.

If you’re interested in work outside of the classroom, consider our non-certification programs in Infant & Family Development & Early Intervention, Museum Education, Literacy, Studies in Education, and Leadership in Museum Education.
