International Dark-Sky Association

The mission of IDA is to preserve and protect the nighttime environment and our heritage of dark skies through quality outdoor lighting. IDA is a membership-based, educational, non-profit organization with members worldwide.

We stop the adverse environmental impact on dark skies by building awareness of the issue of light pollution. We provide solutions and educate the public about the value and effectiveness of quality nighttime lighting.

Much has been accomplished in some locations, but much more needs to be done everywhere. Through quality outdoor lighting, we can succeed in preserving dark skies and in improving the nighttime environment for everyone. IDA supports members' problems concerning these issues by sharing common knowledge on a local, national, and international basis.
