The Smithsonian Associates

The Smithsonian Associates (TSA) is a public education and membership unit that leverages the vast resources of the Smithsonian Institution to create pan-institutional public programs for audiences in the Washington area and across the country. TSA presents diverse program formats including performing arts, films, lectures, seminars, courses, study tours, studio arts, children’s theater, and summer camp inspired by the Smithsonian’s collections, exhibitions, and research. Audiences of all ages explore the best in scientific, historic, artistic, and cultural expression drawn from the United States and around the world. Through their participation, members and the public become involved in the Institution’s work, creating broad interest and support for the Smithsonian.

TSA’s membership includes over 30,000 households and annually offers more than 700 opportunities for member and public participation in Associates programs.

In addition to adult public programs, TSA is also comprised of the Discovery Theatre which produces performances for children and school groups; a masters degree program in the History of American Decorative Arts administered with the George Mason University; National Education Outreach that bring Smithsonian scholars to communities across the nation; the Art Collectors Program.
